The Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad (IFVCNS) was established in 1938 and began operating as an Agricultural Experimental and Control Station. The main activity of the Institute is basic and applied research, aimed at the development of cultivars and hybrids of field and vegetable crops, forage and industrial crops, medicinal plants, and spices. The Institute conducts research in biotechnology, genetics and breeding, seed production, microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, agrochemistry, soil amelioration, phytopathology, entomology, phytopharmacy, toxicology, and so on. The Institute participated in or coordinated more than 170 national and 80 international projects whose results contribute to the global pool of scientific knowledge and improve field and vegetable crop production both in national and global terms.
IFVCNS has an extensive experience by participating in research projects which will help to lead and participate in various tasks within VALERECO project.
More specifically, IFVCNS:
Leads Task 1.2 – Identification of benefits from legume inclusion into cropping systems,
Participates Task 1.4 – Establishment of the Living Labs, T1.5 – Synergies with other projects, Task 2.4 – Behavioural design strategies to leverage the adoption of legumes by farmers, Task 3.1 – Set up of on-station participatory trials and establishment of the experimental protocols following 3D diversification strategies, Task 3.2 – Optimization of legume crops yield, stability and grain quality through agroecological approaches, Task 3.3 – Cascading effects of legume N2-fixation to soil fertility and biodiversity Task 3.4 – Legume contribution to the reduction of disservices from biodiversity aiming at pesticide-free agricultural systems, Task 3.5 – Assessment of legume varieties for their climate change adaptation capability, Task 4.1 – Living-Labs for demonstrating innovative uses of legumes, Task 4.2 – Determination of the technical feasibility of legumes inclusion in crop rotations, Task 4.4 – Life Cycle Assessments, T6.1 – Dissemination, exploitation & communication plan, T6.2 – Boosting stakeholder & ecosystem engagement, T6.3 – Training & capacity building.
